Industrial and Marine Silencers are a thriving manufacturing company with a growing order book. We are currently looking for an experienced Production Manager used to working in a light to medium gauge sheet metal fabrication company providing standard and bespoke products for a wide range of applications and customers.
The Role of Production Manager:
- Liaise with Supervisory Team to determine the daily objectives. Divide tasks between teams on shop floor, taking into account the skills of the labour, build times and predicted delivery dates.
- Managing and motivating a team of 30-40 direct reports with various skill levels. This will include training, handling conflicts, attendance, performance reviews, return to work interviews, holidays, appraisals, etc
- Monitor jobs through the manufacturing process to identify and eliminate any faults or errors.
- Responsible for the delivery of customers’ orders, on time in full, maintaining high standards and improving production lead times
- Liaise with the Sales, Design, Procurement, Stores, HR, Health and Safety, Quality and Dispatch departments.
- Dealing with any issues which may prevent orders going out on time.
- Drawing control – Ensure that Supervisors and Cut and Fold department are using the correct issue of drawings and correct as necessary.
- Overseeing production schedule, ensuring all manufacturing operations are completed. Creating progress report of current projects to support weekly productions meetings.
- Provide feedback and proposals for improvements to the engineering team.
- Offering training to new or current employees, this being either skilled training or simple health and safety training.
- Adding capacity on the shop floor and offering a substitute for any unforeseen absence.
- Ensuring that all health, safety, Environmental and Quality procedures, work processes, safety systems of work, risk assessments are adhered to.
- Maintaining a safe and tidy working environment.
- Taking ownership of all Health & Safety matters within the production areas.
- Monitor all health and safety risks and enforce PPE and company procedures.
- Analyse and review current manufacturing operations/ processes to improve efficiency.
Minimum Skills / Experience Required:
- Experience of being a Production Manager within bespoke Sheet metal or general fabrication manufacturing.
- Experience in working in a quick paced environment (‘JIT’ manufacturing).
- Ideally experience working with customer schedules and bespoke “one off” orders.
- At least 4 years experience as a production manager, managing a team of at least 25 direct reports across multiple departments.
- An understanding of production planning/scheduling processes.
- Strong people manager who can motivate people of varying skill and experience levels.
- Computer literate.
- Self-motivated and takes responsibility when things go awry.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Hands on manager used to stepping away from the desk.
The Package:
- Salary – depending on experience
- Monday to Friday (7.30am-4:00pm)
